Graduates' Class is an advanced course for graduates of New Hope and other international preschools, native English speakers, returnees, and other children who can use English comfortably.

 In this intense, yet enjoyable, 90-minute class, students use English as they work independently and in groups. The teacher's role is to provide mini-lessons in reading and writing, then to guide students toward fun, challenging, and rewarding work.

Class Contents

• Word Work (Phonics/Spelling/Vocabulary). Students work independently at their own level on assigned work.

• Mini-Lessons. One-on-one or small group lessons with a teacher on reading and writing.

• Partner Reading. Students read aloud to one another. Then they ask one another comprehension questions about the reading.

• Work on Writing. Students work on sentence or paragraph composition. They read and comment on one another's work, and then submit it to a teacher.

• Listen to Reading. Students can listen to a book on CD/cassette/computer or to a story from a teacher. They report to a teacher or friend on what they heard.

• Special Projects. These include drama, poetry, and presentations.

• Library time. Students choose books to take home and read.

Our Expectations

• Students will speak only English in class. (If they can't express what they want to say in English, they may ask for help from the teacher or other students.)

• Students will read and write English at home at least five days a week, fifteen minutes per day. Homework cannot be overemphasized. It may be even more important than class attendance. We have a reward system for this.
