Graduates' Class is an advanced course for graduates of New Hope and other international preschools, expatriates, returnees, and other children who can use English comfortably. It is an intense, yet enjoyable, 75-minute class that students may come to once or twice per week.
Typical Class
-
Workbook / One-on-One Time. Students work independently on workbooks while teacher checks homework and helps students one-on-one with difficulties. Students work at their own level and pace. (15-20 minutes)
-
Partner Reading. Students read to one another from books that they read at home the previous week. (10-15 minutes)
-
Writing Workshop. A group lesson to improve listening, speaking, and writing skills. (15-20 minutes)
-
Activities. This is a time where we do activities together to develop the students' language skills as well as their critical thinking and creativity. (15-20 minutes)
-
Games. If students do well and stay on task, we play an educational game of the students' choosing. (5-10 minutes)
-
Library time. Students choose five books to take home and read. (? minutes)
Our Expectations
-
Students will speak only English in class. (If they can't express what they want to say in English, they may ask for help from the teacher or other students.)
-
Students will read and write English at home at least five days a week, fifteen minutes per day. Homework cannot be overemphasized. It may be even more important than class attendance. We have a reward system for this.
-
Students will do at least two pages of workbook at home each week.
